Description

Strategic corporate-nonprofit partnerships increasingly look like multi-year, programmatic collaborations, not transactional funding. But these deeper partnerships fail at alarming rates, and not for the reasons most people think. The #1 predictor of partnership success isn't mission alignment: it's organizational readiness. And most companies don't know how to assess it.

This workshop tackles the critical, often-overlooked question: how do you identify nonprofits ready for strategic engagement before you commit resources? Most nonprofits evaluate potential partners based on programmatic fit alone. Most companies lack frameworks for assessing a nonprofit's governance maturity, operational capacity, or leadership stability. This mismatch sets partnerships up for failure 18 months in, when initial enthusiasm fades and the hard work of alignment begins.

You'll learn what readiness actually means across four dimensions—governance, operations, financial health, and leadership—and how AI can surface signals that companies typically miss. Through real-world examples like FINCA × AWS, we'll show what enabled that partnership to scale and where a board member's involvement was critical to evaluating whether the collaboration could work long-term.

The heart of the session is a 30-minute hands-on diagnostic exercise where you'll assess one of your own current or prospective partnerships using a readiness framework. You'll identify gaps, discuss what would need to change, and explore how AI-supported insights could strengthen your selection process. You'll leave with concrete tools including a partnership readiness assessment, red flags checklist, health monitoring dashboard, and AI implementation guide—plus insights into board service as a high-value strategic partnership lever.

Whether you're designing new partnerships or trying to understand why existing ones are struggling, this session gives you a framework for selecting partners with the organizational capacity to deliver sustained, measurable value.

Attendees will leave with practical strategies to:

  • Design partnerships with clear governance, shared decision-making, and explicit KPIs from the start
  • Assess partner readiness beyond enthusiasm, using operational and governance signals to guide collaboration
  • Monitor partnership health across multiple dimensions (not just dollars deployed) and address issues early
  • Use AI to strengthen visibility, coordination, and insight without compromising trust or accountability
  • Leverage board service as a strategic partnership tool that builds leadership capacity and long-term value
